The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) informed the Stokes County Schools of unauthorized access to student and staff data contained in PowerSchool, the student information system (SIS) used by most school districts in North Carolina. This incident impacts school systems across North Carolina, the nation, and the world.
We are working closely with NCDPI and PowerSchool to determine the specific nature of the data involved. If PowerSchool determines that personal data has been compromised, it will contact the affected individuals directly and provide specific details and guidance.
PowerSchool reports that the incident is contained, that they have taken steps to secure the data, and that there is no indication potentially compromised information has been shared or made public to additional parties. Federal law enforcement, NCDPI, and PowerSchool are monitoring the situation closely.
PowerSchool has assured us that its systems are operational and that it has implemented additional security measures to prevent future incidents. It is important to note that this incident occurred at the PowerSchool company level, and neither the Stokes County Schools nor NCDPI data systems are involved. NCDPI has stated publicly that neither it nor any North Carolina school district could have prevented this incident.
Protecting personally identifiable information of our students, families, and staff is critically important, and we take this matter very seriously. We will share updates as additional information becomes available from NCDPI and PowerSchool. We are committed to providing clear information about the steps being taken to address and mitigate any potential impact. Our priority is to keep our community informed and supported throughout this process.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through this situation alongside other North Carolina school districts and school districts worldwide.

Good Evening Warriors! This is Kristan Gallimore with your weekly message. Our athletic department is raising funds for ALL athletic teams and we need your help. This fundraiser will help us pay for officials, equipment, field maintenance and more. We are selling Pepsi products this year and all sales should be submitted by this Friday, February 7th. The drink choices include Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, diet and zero sugar options, bottled water and more. Each order consists of 24 bottled 16 oz drinks. We will share a pick up date once orders are submitted. Make checks payable to Southeastern Stokes Middle School. We will also accept monetary donations to athletics. The week of February 10th is our canned food drive. We are asking for donations of canned foods and other dry goods to help support our Walnut Cove community. All donations should be taken to your homeroom classes and the grade level with the most donations will receive an ice cream party. Let's love on our community with this worthy cause. Friday, February 14th is our Valentine's Day Dance. It will be held in the gym from 6:00-8:00. Students must go home between dismissal and the dance. This event will replace this month's Freaky Friday. Students who have not recieved a full day ISS or OSS from January 20th to February 14th are eligible to attend. The cost is $5 for admission and concessions will be sold. Join us for a night of fun. Proceeds from the dance will go directly to our band program. As you can see, February is off to a very busy start. I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. I cannot wait to see everyone tomorrow morning. GO WARRIORS!!

Project Child Find is a North Carolina initiative designed to locate, identify, and evaluate children from birth to age 21 who may have disabilities and need special education services. It helps families and educators connect with resources, assessments, and early interventions to support children's educational needs. Services are free and available through local school districts and community agencies. Parents, guardians, and concerned individuals can refer a child for evaluation if developmental delays or learning difficulties are observed.
This information is also available on the district website.

The Stokes County Schools Board of Education approved the 2025-2026 traditional calendar and the Stokes Early College High School calendar.

Good Evening Warriors! This is Kristan Gallimore with your weekly message! This week is another short one as tomorrow there is no school to honor the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. With last week's winter weather, we have moved Check-Ins to this week. All students will be testing on Wednesday for ELA and Thursday for Math with 8th grade taking the Science Check-In on Friday. Please help us by making sure students are on time each morning so that we may begin at 8:20. Tardies greatly impact the success of our students. Core classes are 70 minutes in length and the majority of our students begin their day in these academic courses. Even 15 to 20 minutes can impact student success in the classroom. I challenge all of our students to get to school on time each morning so that we may maximize the instructional opportunities for each of them. Thank you all for your support with student attendance. I hope that you had a good weekend and that our students enjoy their Monday out of school. We cannot wait to see you on Tuesday morning at 8:20. GO WARRIORS!!

Stokes County Schools will be on a regular schedule with limited bus routes on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Several roads that we did not allow buses to travel have improved.
Each day, schools will call the families who live on the roads that our buses will not travel the following day.
Please be safe and allow for extra travel time to school. Remember that we will not count any student late to school as tardy for the remainder of this week.

Revised school 24-25 school calendars for traditional and Stokes Early College High School. The calendars will also be available on the district website.

Updated: There has been a change to the Stokes Early College High School calendar has been updated (2:30pm)

Students may be dropped off as early as 10:30 tomorrow morning and the tardy bell will ring at 11:20. Limited bus routes could potentially impact bus times. Please be patient with our drivers. We cannot wait to see students tomorrow morning!

Stokes County Schools will be on a three-hour delay on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, and will have limited bus routes.
The majority of roads in Stokes County will be fine in the morning. There may be a few patchy problem spots. There are a few roads on which we will not send buses. This will affect less than 2% of our students. Schools are calling the families who live on the roads where we will not send buses.
Please know that we make weather decisions primarily based on our bus routes and the majority of our students. We are making this decision early so you can check your route to school, especially if you decide to allow your child to drive to school tomorrow.
Please take your time and be safe when coming to school. To allow time for safe travel, schools will not count tardies for the remainder of this week.

Weather Announcement:
Stokes County Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 operating on a Remote Learning Day.

If you have any concerns about grades, please schedule a conference with your child's teachers. The Check In window opens this week. Depending on the weather, students will be taking the ELA Check In on Tuesday, 8th grade will take the Science Check In on Wednesday and Math will be on Thursday. Please be sure to have students at school on time each day but especially on test days as we begin promptly at 8:20. If there is a delay, we will not test that day. We cannot wait to celebrate our students who made As and Bs in the second quarter. Be sure to turn in a signed permission form and bring $10 to cover the cost of the trip. Even though we only have 5 student days until a long break, we still have a busy week ahead of us. Join us in participating in our holiday spirit days this week! Details have been shared with students and are posted on our Facebook page. We will be celebrating students who made growth on their iReady diagnostics this week with ice cream and free time. Thank you for putting forth your best effort. Tuesday is the Warrior Band's Christmas concert. Join us at 7:00 in the gym for Sounds of the Season. This Friday is an early dismissal day. Students should be picked up at 12:10. Christmas break begins on Friday afternoon and students return on Monday, January 6th. Car riders, please remember to use the line appropriately. Students should not be picked up in the parking lot. This can be a safety hazard. I also encourage students to get out of the cars once they are at the sidewalk when it is not raining. This will speed up our line and allow people to get into the buildings faster. Families, Mr. Jones and I want to thank each of you for a wonderful fall semester. This will be our last weekly message until Sunday, January 5th so we hope that you enjoy this holiday season with your families and friends, We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years!
